The City provides a tuition and books reimbursement program for educational activities, which are job-related and approved in advance by the Department Head, subject to reimbursement guidelines established by the City’s Administrative Services Department.
The City of Fairfield encourages continuing education among its employees. Therefore, financial assistance is provided to *non-probationary employees who satisfactorily complete approved courses at accredited institutions. Courses for which reimbursement is available are at the discretion of department heads in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and the City’s guidelines.
Tuition Reimbursement Form
The Tuition Reimbursement Process
- Employee (Section 1): Complete Section 1 of the Tuition Reimbursement Form, at least two weeks prior to class registration, and submit it to your department head for review and approval.
- Department Head (Section 2): The department head completes Section 2 and will notify you of any denial and the reason, if applicable. If approved, the department head or designee forwards the form to Human Resources (HR) for final review.
- HR Review: HR will initial the form upon approval and return the approved packet to the employee.
- Post-Class Submission: After completing and passing the course, attach the following to the approved packet and submit to HR for reimbursement processing:
- A copy of your report card
- Receipts for eligible expenses (as outlined in the policy)
Note: HR may request original documents for verification.
- Deadline for Reimbursement: All reimbursement requests must be submitted to HR within 60 days of course completion, except in extraordinary circumstances.
