Home MenuMeasure P - Do's and Don'ts
With the 2026 election cycle underway, all staff are encouraged to review the updated memo on election advocacy. To maintain compliance with state and local laws, it is important to understand the boundaries between public service and political activity.
If you have any questions regarding Measure P and your participation, or need clarification on the memo, please get in touch with the City Manager’s Office or your department supervisor.
Core Guidelines
-
Neutrality is Mandatory: City resources (email, vehicles, office supplies) may not be used for advocacy.
-
On the Clock vs. Off the Clock: While you have the right to participate in political activities as a private citizen, these activities must occur on your own time and away from City property.
-
Informational vs. Promotional: The City may provide impartial, factual information about a measure, but cannot "campaign" for a specific outcome.
