We are conducting an employee survey to learn more about the employee experience, how the City is doing as an employer, and what defines our organization’s values.

Major takeaways from the 2022 survey include:

  • Overall, employees are satisfied with their job
    • 88.6% of respondents agreed they are satisfied with their job
    • 89% believe the City of Fairfield is a good employer
    • 85.4% would recommend working for the City of Fairfield
  • We are dedicated to serving our community
    • When asked about what the organization’s values – the number one theme was “service to community”
    • 75% of respondents agreed the City is a customer-focused organization
  • We have room for improvement around building trust and respect, and encouraging collaboration
    • Only 40.3% of respondents agreed that the City has a climate of openness and straight talk
    • Only 60.4% of respondents feel that employees are treated with respect, regardless of their job title or classification
    • Only 59.7% of respondents know someone in each department
  • Professional development and employee growth are vital to developing our future workforce, but employees don’t always receive the support necessary to advance
    • 78.3% of respondents felt they had opportunities to learn and grow at work in the past year
    • However, only 47.3% received a formal performance appraisal in the past year; when employees do receive an evaluation, 71.3% find it useful
    • Only 55.8% of respondents agreed that they receive timely feedback on their performance

The survey was an initial step in drafting an organizational development workplan to meet the Council’s goal of organizational excellence.
