The City of Fairfield provides basic life insurance for eligible employees beginning the first day of the month following date of hire. Employees also have option to enroll in or increase their optional life insurance during the City's annual open enrollment period. For more details regarding the amount of coverage provided, please refer to your bargaining unit's benefit summary or memorandum of understanding (MOU).

In addition to the City paid basic life insurance, employees can purchase optional life insurance for themselves, spouses/domestic partners, and children. Optional life insurance is 100% employee paid.

Some factors to consider when purchasing optional life insurance:

For Employee Optional Life Insurance

Purchase coverage in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $500,000, not to exceed 6.0 times your covered annual earnings.
During the annual enrollment period, you can increase your current coverage amount by $40,000 without providing proof of good health to Prudential.
If enrolling yourself for the first time, or increasing your coverage amount by more than $40,000 will require proof of good health to Prudential.
Coverage will be reduced as you age - by 35% at age 65 and 50% at age 70.

For Spouse/Domestic Partner Optional Life Insurance

Purchase coverage in increments of $5,000 up to a maximum of $250,000.
Coverage amount on your spouse /domestic partner may not exceed 50% of employee’s optional life insurance amount.
Enrolling your spouse/domestic partner for the first time or increasing their coverage at open enrollment will required proof of good health.
Coverage will be reduced as you age - by 35% at age 65 and 50% at age 70.
